65-45-12 Ductile Iron Castings (ASTM A536)

65-45-12 ductile iron castings (ASTM A536) — 65 ksi tensile, 45 ksi yield, 12% elongation. Poured in our Southern Kansas foundry with a 10-12 week lead time after pattern is received.

What Is 65-45-12 Ductile Iron?

65-45-12 is a ferritic, ductile grade of ductile iron defined by ASTM A536. The “65-45-12” naming convention is standard across the industry: 65 ksi minimum tensile strength, 45 ksi minimum yield strength, 12% minimum elongation. 65-45-12 is the most ductile and most machinable grade in the A536 family — ideal where shock loading, vibration, or downstream machining matters more than peak strength.

65-45-12 Mechanical Properties

  • Tensile strength: 65 ksi minimum
  • Yield strength: 45 ksi minimum
  • Elongation: 12% minimum
  • Brinell hardness: typically 143-217 HB
  • Microstructure: nodular graphite in a ferritic / pearlitic matrix per ASTM A536
  • Standard: ASTM A536

Common Applications for 65-45-12 Ductile Iron Castings

  • Valves and valve bodies
  • Pipe fittings and pressure-containing components
  • Housings and gearbox bodies
  • Agricultural components subject to shock and vibration
  • Parts requiring high impact resistance with good machinability

Why Manufacturers Choose Kansas Castings for 65-45-12

  • ASTM A536 compliant — every 65-45-12 casting meets the standard, with material certifications and test reports available on request.
  • Up to 150 lbs per part — no minimum casting weight; ideal for smaller, repeat-volume parts.
  • 10-12 week lead time after pattern is received, with consistent on-spec castings for the life of the program.
  • In-house machining — milling, turning, and precision finishing on ductile iron parts.
  • Made in the USA — family-run foundry in Belle Plaine, Kansas since 1993, shipped nationwide.
