80-55-06 ductile iron castings (ASTM A536) — 80 ksi tensile, 55 ksi yield, 6% elongation. Poured in our Southern Kansas foundry with a 10-12 week lead time after pattern is received.
What Is 80-55-06 Ductile Iron?
80-55-06 is a pearlitic-ferritic, balanced grade of ductile iron defined by ASTM A536. The “80-55-06” naming convention is standard across the industry: 80 ksi minimum tensile strength, 55 ksi minimum yield strength, 6% minimum elongation. 80-55-06 is the balanced workhorse of A536 ductile iron — higher strength and wear resistance than 65-45-12, but with enough ductility to survive moderate shock loading.
80-55-06 Mechanical Properties
- Tensile strength: 80 ksi minimum
- Yield strength: 55 ksi minimum
- Elongation: 6% minimum
- Brinell hardness: typically 187-255 HB
- Microstructure: nodular graphite in a ferritic / pearlitic matrix per ASTM A536
- Standard: ASTM A536
Common Applications for 80-55-06 Ductile Iron Castings
- Gears and gearboxes
- Crankshafts
- Heavy machinery components
- Structural parts under sustained load
- Wear-resistant components that still need some toughness
Why Manufacturers Choose Kansas Castings for 80-55-06
- ASTM A536 compliant — every 80-55-06 casting meets the standard, with material certifications and test reports available on request.
- Up to 150 lbs per part — no minimum casting weight; ideal for smaller, repeat-volume parts.
- 10-12 week lead time after pattern is received, with consistent on-spec castings for the life of the program.
- In-house machining — milling, turning, and precision finishing on ductile iron parts.
- Made in the USA — family-run foundry in Belle Plaine, Kansas since 1993, shipped nationwide.
Other ASTM A536 Grades We Pour
- 65-45-12 ductile iron — best ductility and machinability
- 80-55-06 ductile iron — balanced strength and durability
- 100-70-03 ductile iron — maximum strength, lowest ductility
